fashion tips from a non fashion blogger

Okay let's be real. I'm probably the last person who should be giving out any kind of fashion tips. But I feel like I've really learned a few gems. So here goes.

1. Wearing all black is super slimming apparently. And it makes me feel like a spy. #yasss

2. Salvation army/goodwill has sweeeeeeet finds.

3. Keep it casual w/ a pair of chunky sandalssss. And also this shirt is from Salvation Army. And also comfy jeans are worth investing in.

4. Chokers are one of those things that are super in right now. I despised the trend. Now I luv the trend. Try it out maybe.

So there you have it. Four tips from me. You know who has a really cool fashion blog? My friend, Lindsey! Check out her new blog here: http://www.lovefromlinds.com/fashion - It won't disappoint.

Fall Fashion + ramblings

It's officially autumn! Okay that is such a pretty word.

So I got the shirt as a hand-me-down from my grandmother and I LOVE it! My tankop is from Aeropostle(.99 I think yes). My scarf was a birthday gift. My jeggings are from Kohl's. My shoes are also from kohl's. My headband was crocheted by my mother. And my rings are all from Loulou's boutique (except for my CTR ring which was given to me by my neighbor's mom:).

I decided to go for a "boho" look today. Mainly because I wanted to wear my pjs to school and this was the closest I could get without looking like a total bum.

Some compliments/takes on my outfit:
"You look very cute!" "You are SO hipster." "Could you get any more adorable?" And my absolute favorite "you look like a teacher that's trying too hard to look like a student."

Pick Me Up

These days it’s easy to think you’re fat and not-so attractive. How could you not? With all of the things we see on the internet, like pinterest, it’s easy to think that you’re not all that. Just to let you know, you truly are beautiful!

Quick pick-me-ups (*hint - this one is for everybody)
-Wake up in the morning and thank God for making you
-Hang up a little sign on your mirror with your favorite verse
-Tell yourself that you are beautiful
-Drink a whole cup of water within the first 30 minutes of waking up.
-Have a fruit salad for breakfast
-Go on a walk
-Create a fun playlist and play it on the computer/ipod/etc and blare it!

What is the “must have” accessory of the Summer? A Scarf! Here are some ideas for how to tie your summer scarves, including how-to make a headband with your scarf.

Sunday Outfit

I try to do fashion posts on this blog, but it's rare that someone in my family will actually take a picture for me...and i never feel like taking all that time to set up my tripod...but today I have a picture for you!!! One single photo of my amazing outfit.

please excuse my sister's messy room.
and my hair.
which my mom later commented, "don't you put any gel in it to calm your frizz?"
thanks mom. thanks.

But i've been trying to do more with my outfits.
i really believe i've come a loooong way!

seriousy. i have. going to public school sparked something in me
to actually care about how i looked.
it's a dog eat dog world out there and unfortunately
how your dressed determines who you hang out with.
i mean it can be a good thing. but usually it's not.

Basic Beauty Essentials for 2013

Even if you're a girl on a budget,
you still need the "basics".
Okay well what I consider basics :P

jewelry, hair stuff, make-up {not pictured above}

I know you like my watches. Wanna know what you're gonna like even more?
the price. $4.50.
( by clicking "go now" you will be taken to a page from kohls.com where you can purchase this watch)

Silver Ring.
it matches all.

Pearl earrings. They are SO classy.  And of course some bangles.

I'm bangles crazy.
you know what's even crazier? That you can get these on sale at Kohl's.
I also used one of the plastic clear "hoops" that hold scarves in place
on racks.... And yes, that is a bread tie holding my bangles together.

Silver Necklace or Gold Necklace. Small, simple, cute.

Chapstick!!
Get a tinted one and a clear one.
Plus there is a little SPF to protect your lips (:
You know what's cool?
Is that I got these two for free for my birthday
at Sephora. I just walked in, picked it up, and now I use them (:

Bronzer! What I like about bronzer is that you don't have to
use foundation and even if you do it looks good.
It gives you a "glow" and sparkle.

Here's the same brand, but this time it's blush.
You know what's awesome? Is that these are great products.
and they are only about $3 at Wal-mart.

Last, but not least nails art supplies. Nails are great "accessories".

And that's it. My beauty essentials for 2013.

Don't forget that you don't need this stuff to be beautiful.
It's just an additive. Not a need.
It's also meant to be fun.

XoXo,
Lily

Fashionista Friday!

I saw this on pinterest

And oh how I've wanted a big ol' watch.
But they are expensive.
Like this one from Michael Kors
Michael Kors Men's Oversized Watch

or these

Big watches <3
All from Michael Kors! (image source unknown)

How disheartening :(

$250 buckaroos...for a watch...
No doubt that they are worth it,
but at the moment,
I can't just spend that kind of money
on "frivolous" items.
Especially with a car, license, insurance, phone, etc
all on the way with my 16th birthday.
And no way am I going to spend all of my hard earned money.

But you see, God is awesome. He knows everything I want.
Everything.
Like last year for my quinceñera, I wanted a limo.
But I said nothing. I knew it would be expensive
and that we just couldn't afford it at the moment.
But someone rented one for me as a gift.
And someone bought me a beautiful tiered cake.
And I knew that eventually I'd get a beautiful watch.

Today was that day my friend.

And you won't believe how much it cost.

(yes, this is my arm and bangles and watch)

In my opinion it's prettier than the Michael Kors watches,
it's in the copper tone that I absolutely adore,
and it was about... $245 cheaper (on sale) than the one
from Kors.

I also got one in silver:)

Lose weight...gain weight...eat too much....eat too little.....

I am tired of it.
Tired of being told
that I look like I gained weight.
Tired of being told that
I should lose weight.
Tired of seeing "inspirational" workouts
on pinterest.
TIRED of living my life thinking
that I have to look a certain way
and weigh a certain way.
I'm tired tired tired of thinking about it.

If you have been reading my blog for a while now
you'll know that I posted a lot about my weight
and my journey. You can read up on it here.
Or if you read my post last Wednesday then
you'd know that it's something that's been on my mind.

the irony of this world
via

This world is confusing at times.
Which is why I've decided to just be me.
To just be healthy.
To just be happy with myself.
And you should be too.

Made fun of for dressing "old"?

it hurts.
when someone tells me
i dress like an old person.
i know i shouldn't let it.
but it stings.

honestly, i dress the way i do
because it's comfortable.
it's also what I can afford.
which is not to say you can get some
very cuuuute things on clearance.

(just for fun)

(day after I had 3 gigs)

(instead of wearing pjs to school)

(the day after my CD release)

we all have different taste
and we all have different style.
right?
so why do I feel like crying?

all my life
I've been told by
the people close and more distant to me,
that I dress like an old person.

it makes me feel
self conscious
un-beautiful
like a mess.

some days it effects me
more than others.

and I know that
other people's opinions
aren't supposed to matter,
but let's be real.

you want people to
compliment you.
it feels great.
and if you don't
like something,
it's better not to say
anything at all.
or to give an obvious body check,
sigh,
and then keep speaking.

do you know how
insignificant you can make
people feel?
by you actions, what you say, your body language.

so be careful.
and if you have moments
like these, remember this

beauty

and read up Aunie's post.
she posted it today.
and i don't think
that it was a coincidence.
